Happy Feet

Every minute of every day our body’s systems work together to create the subtle adjustments needed for good health. Reflexology is a holistic system of treatment using compression and stimulation of specific reflex points on the hands, the ears, and especially the feet. The aim of reflexology is to promote circulation and relaxation to allow room for the body to heal itself. When we encourage the body to seek balance through the feet, it reduces stress and regains the power to heal and find happiness.

We have over 7000 nerve endings in the soles of our feet that create a map of the entire body and its systems. To add, the shape, size, and health of our feet correlate with the shape, size, and health of our body. We take thousands of steps daily any never really stop to realise how much stress our feet are subjected to. As stress accumulates, our health declines. Reflexology is an effective tool to combat the effects of stress on the body. It is so much more than a good hand or foot massage, it is a completely non invasive and safe form of hands on therapy that encourages balance in all the systems of the body.

Our circulatory system is responsible for carrying oxygen and nutrients to our tissues and to carry waste away. The aim of the reflexologist is to improve circulation and promote relaxation. When this happens, the body is better equipped to correct negative factors involved in the disease process such as congestion, inflammation and tension. When there is congestion in the body, it creates unwanted growths such as cysts and tumors. Inflammation in the body creates disorders such as arthritis, plantar fasciitis, colitis, bronchitis and sinusitis. Tension is responsible for lowering the efficiency of the immune system which results in colds, flus, and dis-ease throughout the body.  When we improve circulation, we decrease muscle tension and soreness, and reduce swelling from injuries or illness. Immune function, skin tone and the ability to concentrate also improve when circulation is increased.

Treatments usually last 60-90 minutes and are quite pleasant and relaxing. To receive treatment, the client lies on a table or sits in a reclining chair. The reflexologist applies thumb or finger pressure to each foot. Certain areas may feel more sensitive than others. The tenderness often decreases as the practitioner works the feet and the client begins to relax. The more often you receive reflexology, the more benefits you are likely to notice. You may also become more aware of how it feels to be truly relaxed, which can help to recognize areas of tension in the body.

By nourishing your mental and physical vitality, reflexology can help to normalise the body’s functions. Regular treatments help alleviate stress and tension, and assist healthy nerve functioning and circulation throughout the body. Whether you have a chronic or an acute health problem or you are simply looking for a way to reduce tension and promote wellbeing, reflexology may be the answer to your problem.
